Overview
This article answers frequently asked questions about Audiense Action, an AI-powered audience intelligence platform that helps you discover audiences, explore consumer behaviors, and develop marketing strategies through natural language conversations.
Use the sections below to learn more about where Action's data comes from, how audience segments are generated, and what you can accomplish within the platform.
Data and Coverage
Where does Audiense Action's foot-traffic data come from?
Audiense Action's store-visit insights are based on anonymized, aggregated mobile visitation data licensed by Audiense.
This data helps identify patterns in visits to physical store locations and profile store visitors against behavioral and psychographic audience segments.
Audiense does not receive personally identifiable information, such as individual names, device identities, or personal travel histories.
Why is foot-traffic data available for some brands but not others?
Audiense Action has foot-traffic coverage for approximately 7,000 brands with physical locations in the United States.
Not every brand is included in this dataset, so store-visit insights may not be available for all brands.
When foot-traffic data is unavailable, Action can use digital signals, including social engagement, interests, and online behaviors, to identify relevant audience segments.
This means you can still explore audience characteristics and preferences, but the insights reflect consumers who engage with the brand digitally rather than those who visit its physical locations.
Can Audiense Action access my website traffic, CRM, sales, or enrollment data?
No. Audiense Action does not connect directly to your website analytics, tracking pixels, CRM, point-of-sale systems, or internal sales and enrollment databases.
When you share a website URL, Action reads the available page content to understand your brand, products, services, and target audience.
It does not access information about your website visitors or customer records.
How does Audiense Action create audience segments from a website URL?
When you provide a website URL, Audiense Action analyzes the publicly accessible page content to understand:
- What your brand offers.
- Who your products or services are intended for.
- How your brand is positioned.
- Which consumer interests or characteristics may be relevant.
Action uses this information to create an audience description that you can confirm or refine.
It then matches that description against its library of behavioral audience segments, using social and behavioral data to identify relevant groups and explain why they may be a good fit.
What do "share of store visitors" and "reach" mean?
These metrics describe different aspects of an audience segment:
- Share of store visitors: The percentage of a brand's observed store visitors who belong to a particular audience segment.
- Reach: The estimated national size of an audience segment.
These metrics help you understand how strongly a segment is represented among a brand's store visitors and how large that audience is nationally.
Note: Audiense Action does not measure total visit volume, sales, or market share. Share of store visitors should not be interpreted as the percentage of all foot traffic a brand receives within a market.
Is Audiense Action's data available outside the United States?
No. At this time, Audiense Action's audience insights cover the United States only.
Can I see how an audience has changed over time?
For store-visit insights, you can ask Audiense Action to analyze visitors over different time periods, including:
- The last month.
- The last three months.
- The last six months.
These time periods allow you to explore store-visitor audiences within a specific window.
Behavioral segment profiles describe current audience characteristics and are not designed to provide year-over-year historical comparisons.
Audience Segments
Are Audiense Action's audience segments pre-built?
Yes. Audiense Action uses a library of 145 pre-built behavioral audience segments.
These segments are developed from consumer behavioral data and represent groups with shared interests, preferences, and characteristics.
When you describe a brand or target audience, Action identifies the segments that most closely match your description.
You can also ask Action to browse or explore the full segment library directly through chat.
Can I rename audience segments for a presentation or client report?
Yes. You can ask Audiense Action to use custom names for audience segments within your conversation.
For example, you might ask Action to rename a segment to better align with your client's terminology or campaign objectives.
Action will use your preferred names for the remainder of that conversation.
Note: Renaming a segment does not change its original name in the segment library or the underlying audience data.
Can Audiense Action create B2B or niche industry audiences?
Audiense Action can help identify audiences relevant to B2B and specialized industries, but there are some limitations.
Because Action's audience segments are based on consumer behavior, B2B audiences are approximated using signals such as professional context, interests, and platform engagement.
For highly specialized industries, such as commercial vehicles, aviation maintenance, or industrial equipment, Action may identify audiences with relevant characteristics rather than exact job-title or industry-specific matches.
For the best results, provide detailed context about your target audience and refine your questions through the conversation.
Why do some recommended influencers seem unrelated to my brand?
Influencer recommendations reflect the accounts an audience segment actually follows on social media.
These results represent audience affinity rather than direct relevance to your brand's industry or product category.
As a result, recommendations may include:
- Individual content creators.
- Media outlets.
- Brand accounts.
- Accounts that are not currently active.
If you want more specific recommendations, you can refine your request.
For example, ask Action to show "individual creators only" or specify an industry or content category.

Can Audiense Action analyze a Facebook page or social media profile?
Audiense Action can read publicly accessible web pages, but it cannot access content that requires a login or is restricted by bot protection.
Many social media profiles, including Facebook pages, may have these restrictions.
If Action cannot access a social media page, provide the brand's public website instead.
This allows Action to analyze the brand's available content and use it to identify relevant audience segments.
Are audience segment chat responses generated by real people?
No. Audience responses are AI-generated simulations based on measured behavioral and audience data.
These responses are designed to represent the characteristics, interests, and preferences associated with a particular audience segment.
You can think of this approach as a synthetic focus group that helps you explore potential audience perspectives.
Note: These responses do not come from interviews with real consumers and should not be treated as direct customer feedback or a replacement for primary audience research.
