# Use Audiense MCP with Gemini (beta)

## Learn the two ways to use your Audiense reports in Gemini, and what to expect from each.

### **Overview**

Gemini doesn't support MCP connectors for every account yet. Depending on your account, you can connect Audiense to Gemini in one of two ways:

- Gemini custom apps, Google's own option, if your account is eligible.
- The Audiense MCP Chrome extension, an unofficial beta that works with any Gemini account in desktop Chrome.

**Note**: For the most reliable experience, we recommend Claude or ChatGPT. See [*Choosing an AI Platform for Audiense MCP*](https://knowledge.audiense.com/mcp/mcp/recommended-approach-for-mcp?hsLang=en).

### **Option 1: Gemini custom apps**

Google lets some accounts add an MCP server as a custom app in Gemini.

Who can use it: personal Google accounts (not work or school accounts), in the US, aged 18 or over, with *Keep Activity* turned on. You add the app in the Gemini web app, and then it works on the web and in the mobile app.

1. Go to [gemini.google.com](http://gemini.google.com).
2. Click Settings, then Connected Apps.
3. Under *Custom apps*, click Add a custom app.
4. Enter the server URL of the Audiense application, from [*Audiense MCP Endpoints and Availability*](https://knowledge.audiense.com/mcp/mcp/audiense-apps-that-are-connected-to-claude?hsLang=en). Use the URL that ends in `/mcp`.
5. Click Next and sign in with your Audiense account when asked.
     1. To use it in a chat, type @ and select the Audiense app.
     2. If you don't see *Custom apps*, your account isn't eligible yet: use option 2. Google decides who can use this feature and may change it: check [Google's help page](https://support.google.com/gemini/answer/17209137) for the latest information.
     3. **Gemini Enterprise:** Custom MCP servers are set up by your organization's admin. Ask them to add the Audiense server URLs.

### **Option 2: The Audiense MCP Chrome extension (beta)**

**Unofficial beta.** This extension is provided as is, on a best-effort basis. It isn't actively maintained and has no priority support. It may stop working if Google changes the Gemini website.

#### **Before you begin**

- **Browser:** desktop Chrome 116 or later. It doesn't work in the Gemini mobile app.
- **Gemini account:** any account, free, personal or Workspace.
- **Workspace accounts:** your admin may block Chrome extensions or file uploads to Gemini. The extension needs both.
- **Audiense:** access to the Audiense applications you want to use.

#### **Install and connect**

1. Install the [Audiense MCP extension](https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/audiense-mcp/kanbedbdlablhgfjbldgeefppmdoocmn) from the Chrome Web Store.
2. Click the Audiense MCP icon in the Chrome toolbar.
3. Click Connect next to each Audiense application you want to use.
4. Sign in with your Audiense account in the tab that opens. The tab closes and the application shows as connected.

     1. The five Audiense MCPs are already set up in the extension, so you don't need a server URL or a Personal Access Token. The extension shows them with these names:

| #### **In the Extension** | #### **Audiense Application** |
| --- | --- |
| Social Intelligence – Insights | Audiense Insights |
| Digital Intelligence – SoPrism (Meta) | SoPrism (Meta) |
| Digital Intelligence for LinkedIn | Digital Intelligence for LinkedIn |
| Demand Intelligence – Demand | Demand |
| X Marketing – Tweet Binder | Tweet Binder |

#### **Use it in a chat**

1. Open [gemini.google.com](http://gemini.google.com). An MCP button appears next to the message box.
2. Click it, open Tools and click Attach MCP Instructions. This adds a file that tells Gemini which Audiense tools it can use.
3. Ask your question, for example: *Summarize my report \[Report name\]*. Do this at the start of every new chat: without the instructions, Gemini doesn't know the tools exist.
When Gemini uses a tool, the extension runs it, adds the result to the chat and sends it so Gemini can continue. To review each step yourself, turn off Auto Execute, Auto Insert and Auto Submit in the extension's Settings tab.

#### **Permissions**

The extension only accesses Gemini and the Audiense MCP servers, not other websites.

| #### **Permission** | #### **Why it's needed** |
| --- | --- |
| [gemini.google.com](http://gemini.google.com) | To add the MCP button, read Gemini's replies to find tool calls, and add the results to the chat |
| Audiense MCP servers (`*.audiense.net`) | To call the Audiense MCPs |
| Storage | To save your connections, settings and sign-in locally in your browser |
| Identity and tabs | To open the Audiense sign-in in a new tab and close it when you're done |

#### **Limitations**

- Less reliable than Claude or ChatGPT. Gemini doesn't support MCP natively, so it sometimes skips a tool, writes a tool call incorrectly or answers without waiting for the result.
- Long results are added to the chat as text and use up Gemini's context, so large reports reach the limit sooner.
- Desktop Chrome only.

#### **Your data**

The extension connects your browser directly to the Audiense MCP servers, using your own Audiense sign-in, which is stored only in your browser. No other server is involved. The results added to the chat are part of your Gemini conversation, so Google processes them under your Gemini terms, like anything else you share in a chat.
